Howto: aMule + Firefox 3.6 + Gnome : make ed2k links work

by on Jan.19, 2011, under Linux

Step 1 : Close all firefox windows.

Step 2 : Remove all lines with the text “ed2k” in your firefox’s pref.js file (it should be located in $HOME/.mozilla/firefox/your.profile/pref.js)

Step 3 : In a shell, as a simple user, type the following :

whereis ed2k

You should remember the output because you need it in the next step. It probably is /usr/bin/ed2k but might be different.

Step 4 : In a shell, as a simple user, type the following :

gconftool-2 -t string -s /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/ed2k/command “/usr/bin/ed2k %s”

(replace with the correct path to ed2k as checked in the third step)

gconftool-2 -t bool -s /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/ed2k/enabled true
gconftool-2 -t bool -s /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/ed2k/needs_terminal false

Step 5 : Launch Firefox and click on an ed2k link. Choose the application “ed2k” and remember your choice.

Enjoy !
